Wow we didn't know this was even an option, my mum was brought to her house in a simple white cardboard coffin and we all said our speeches and music was played - and after we got to decorate the coffin however we wanted - it was lovely and mum would have loved it!! I can't recommend this enough, Toby was great and listened and explained all our options, a joy at a sad time.

We chose Simple Kent Funerals because of the glowing reviews for Toby’s services. We were not disappointed. Within a few hours of calling him, Toby came to see us and took time to hear our views, wishes and concerns. Whilst we were completely clueless in the aftermath of the death of my father-in-law, Toby guided his son and me through the immediate processes and requirements, took control where we wanted and listened carefully to our thoughts about the funeral. We had strong feelings about the service being non-traditional and Toby was extremely helpful in guiding us through the options. Thank you for everything that you did, both from the day of Mum’s death, to the seamless, quiet and efficient way that you handled all the arrangements for the cremation and funeral. You were there in charge, but in a gentle way from the sidelines. The cremation service was especially poignant and for most there, their first ever funeral and cremation service, so a particularly difficult time, but it was all explained clearly and proceeded simply. I won’t forget seeing Mum’s great grandchildren all placing their floral stems on the coffin together- a poignant memory. We were delighted with Simple Kent Funerals' handling of my father-in-law's funeral. At an obviously very distressing time we were totally unaware of what we should do. Mum was over 100 before she had to move into a care home near Folkestone, where she lived, for her own safety. I live well over 100 miles away and it was a very difficult time; I visited at least weekly. She was deteriorating quite quickly, and just before this awful virus took hold and closed the Home to visitors, I knew I had to put certain arrangements in hand - just in case. I last visited just a day or so before the Home went into 'lockdown' and had arranged to meet Toby there. I had spoken to him a day or so earlier, and I found Kent Simple Funerals on the Internet. He came over to the Home and we discussed the arrangements I wanted, as and when Mum did pass. He was understanding, empathetic and at the same time professional. He sent me a quote for all the arrangements the following day. The inevitable happened (thank goodness Mum did not die from COVID-19) and from that moment he was there for me and her. When he went to the Home the following day he told me something along the lines of "Don't worry; I'll look after Mum from now". Incredibly reassuring. All the subsequent arrangements went amazingly smoothly considering the circumstances, and I have nothing but huge praise and thanks for all he did. I would recommend Toby and Kent Simple Funerals unreservedly.

They were the darkest days. My dearest husband Brian had died, and I had to get on and organise his farewell ceremony and a celebration of his life.
We didn’t want our goodbye to Brian to be a run-of-the-mill, assembly-line occasion. I searched the web for the right people. And I found them – in Simple Kent Funerals. The company’s unique ethos shone out from their website, and I instantly felt I was in good hands. Director and celebrant Toby Mynott was a tower of strength before, during and after Brian’s Day. He was sympathetic, quietly efficient, compassionate, supportive and showed great empathy with all of us. He instinctively had just the right words.
Toby helped us with countless things we hadn’t even thought about, but he had. Additionally, the fees and charges were reasonable, and everything was explained very transparently at the outset. No nasty surprises.
Toby led the ceremony perfectly and gave great comfort to family and friends when he read out with eloquence and sincerity the many tributes to Brian. He helped us to achieve as perfect a Brian’s Day as we could have hoped for. As a family member observed: “At times like these, everybody needs a Toby.” And we gave Brian the best goodbye.

Where do I start? At a very difficult time, Toby of Simple Kent Funerals, scooped us up with kindness and consideration and guided us every step of the way! My father had decided he just wanted a cremation with no funeral service, which was a bit of a surprise to all of us! After discussing our options with Toby, we plumped for a direct cremation. Toby dealt with the Hospice and all the necessary paperwork affording us all with the utmost kindness and respect. We were notified in advance of the cremation time and date and our family across the country sat in their respective homes listening to Cwm Rhonda (his favourite song) at the allotted time! It was a much gentler way of saying goodbye to a much loved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. I would highly recommend Simple Kent Funerals and thank Toby for looking after us all so well.

There is only one way to describe Toby: a blessing. Whilst trying to plan the incredibly simple, personal funeral that my late father had specifically requested, I encountered what can only be described as deaf ears from larger funeral directors. After the sudden passing of my mum financially we were struggling, Toby was so understanding helping us out with ideas and ways to make our special funeral happen, my mum didn't want a 'normal' funeral and Toby helped us to fulfil her wishes at an affordable cost. When mum fell asleep in death, a dear friend gave me Toby's telephone number and told me how kind and thoughtful he had been with their family.

I can't praise Toby highly enough for the care that he gave to me and my sons when my husband passed away after a short illness in December. John, my husband knew he was not going to get better so he wished to arrange his funeral. Simple Kent Funerals was the first that I found and Toby came to see us and listened to what John wanted, which was quite specific and he made sure that it all happened as John had requested. When he came to see us it was very relaxed and not at all formal, and John liked Toby very much, which put his mind at ease. I was quite nervous as I had never had to do anything like this before, but Toby dealt with everything with ease and good humour, making sure that me and my sons were all kept up to date with what was happening, and the day went seamlessly. Toby has been a good friend to me and my family for many years so Simple Kent Funerals was the obvious choice for us to handle the ghastly practicalities of mother's funeral. My 99 year old mother was hugely comforted to know that she would be looked after by much loved Toby after her inevitable demise. I love that Toby offers alternative arrangements for funerals but my mother was a loyal member of her Church and wanted a traditional Christian Service conducted by Reverend Margaret Roylance, who 20 years ago, held the service for my father. Afterwards she sought cremation followed by burial at the Woodland Cemetery in Tenterden to join her husband, my father, under a silver birch tree. Toby facilitated her wishes perfectly. He listened to the voices of her 3 offspring and was brilliant at steering us through all options to reach a happy consensus. We can't fault his attention to every detail in creating the perfect service, complete with a sheet that reflected my mother's choice of music and hymns and photos illustrating her long and colourful life. He also arranged the perfect reception with wonderful refreshments, beautifully presented and served, and a suitable venue to remember mother. We are all grateful for his kind sensitivity and endless patience and support. Thank you for making a painful experience bearable.

What a Top Bloke Toby is! We didn't want the outdated Victorian solemnity of a traditional funeral with a hearse and wooden coffin et al for our dad, and neither would he have wanted that. Toby completely understood our desire for a simple and personal cremation and carried out our wishes with panache and empathy. Our dad would have been chuffed to bits to have Toby take care of all the details in the wonderful way that he did, and with Toby's help and guidance we will do something special with dad's ashes at a later date. A simple message to thank you for making the celebration of Mummy's life so bearable and, dare I say, enjoyable, for me and my two sisters, seems inadequate. You could not have been more gentle, understanding or kind to all three of us, in what was a difficult time in all our lives. Because of you and what you enabled us to do, Mum's funeral will be remembered by us all as a joyous and upbeat farewell rather than as a sad and mournful ending.
Throughout the process you have made us all feel safe and supported and free to mourn our loss in our somewhat unconventional way, without any sense that what we asked of you was or could ever be "off limits".
You swiftly collected Mummy's body from her home on the day of her death and then arranged for her safe keeping in your care for so long, while the GP and Coroner dallied in authorising the issue of her death certificate. You then met with us three girls and gently refereed our "discussions" while, in typical sisterly fashion, we debated how best to mark Mummy's passing and celebrate her life. You even handed out drinks and nibbles while we gatherered together for our "Disorderly Service" to remember the best bits of Mum's 87 years while she lay in state amongst us in her garden, in the cardboard coffin that you encouraged us to hand decorate (such a therapeutic process for us all even though, sadly, covid infections meant we couldn't do it together), surrounded by her family and friends. And, finally, you conducted the more formal farewell ceremony in the chapel at Tunbridge Wells cemetery, with such gravitas and yet humour, that many who were there on the day commented to me how different the funeral was to others they had attended and how very much more enjoyable.
Not many people, I suspect, choose to store their late mother's ashes in a magnum of champagne bottle - with a hand crafted label designed by you; nor to request that the Service sheet be prepared as one document in two parts, to fit the two very different ceremonies held, but you made these things happen so carefully.
I now smile instead of cry, when I look at the service sheet, remembering our idiosyncratic Mum as she deserves to be remembered, not traditonal in the common sense of the word, but undoubtedly unique.
All of the above went without a hitch due to your stewardship Toby, and it was exactly the kind of celebration that Mummy would have loved.

Dear Toby, I am struggling to find the right words to thank you so very much for working with me to make my sister’s funeral a fitting tribute. I think I need to keep it simple. You could not have been more supportive to me and the friends who were helping me at that time, which is just so painful. Throughout the process, you maintained regular contact as we went through several iterations of planning until I was completely satisfied with the content and order of the service. You could not have been more thoughtful with your attention to detail. With your support, I was able to arrange for my sisters service and reception to be held in my local village hall. I did not want to visit the crematorium and, as neither of us were religious, a church service was not a consideration. There were times when I felt that there was some disapproval of my plans from friends, but as it turned out it was very well received by all. I have subsequently received messages from many people who wish to reconsider plans for their own funeral as they now wish to have a similar, less traditional occasion. Right from our first phone call with Toby, my sister and I were confident that he would be able to provide the personal and simple funeral that we wanted for our father. He came to see us almost immediately following the call and already at that first meeting we were able to structure the layout of the ceremony, with Toby’s expert guidance. We were particularly impressed with the tailor-made service he provides, so different from the mechanical process other providers seem to adhere to. Toby suggested he should make the introductory speech and we provided him with a biography of our father’s life as background. When Toby delivered a much-shortened version of this at the service one really had the feeling he had known our father personally and this made a huge difference. All the administrative procedures were handled very promptly and the service itself was planned with great precision. Toby delivered a fantastic service and, although the circumstances were both sad and distressing, we enjoyed getting to know him both through our contacts before the cremation and afterwards at the lunch party to celebrate our father’s life. We found Toby’s charges to be very reasonable given the amount of work involved and we would have no hesitation in recommending him to others looking for a personable funeral director who really listens to his client’s needs.

Simply Perfect. Dad didn't want a typical cremation experience, having been to too many in recent times. He was keen on the idea of Direct to Grave, no fuss at that time, but a Celebration of Life party at a later date. I was given details of Simple Kent Funerals and spoke to Toby prior to dad's death, in order to find out what happens and what we had to do. At all times, Toby has been so pleasant, friendly and understanding. When he and his colleague came to remove dad, they were so respectful and gentle, Toby spent unhurried and comfortable time with my brother and me, talking, listening and seeing us through that difficult time. What made his service oh so special, was when I asked where dad would be until his funeral. Toby explained that dad would be resting in a converted railway arch in Strood, Kent. Dad was, amongst many other interests, a railway enthusiast, and, if he had known this piece of information he would have said that it couldn't have been better, he would have been delighted. On telling his friends this news, they all rejoiced in the knowledge that dad was where he should be. In giving dad such wonderful end of life and end of journey care, Toby has helped greatly with the process of healing. Thank you so very much, we are more grateful than you will ever know.

I choose Toby from our first telephone conversation as he was so calm and understanding, unlike other funeral companies he was interested in my Dad rather than going straight into prices. Even though we had to deal with the Coronavirus and couldn't meet him to organise the funeral he always had time to speak to me on the numerous times I rang him. We organised a family Zoom meeting with him so we could all have a chance to put our ideas forward and Toby listened and guided us through the whole meeting.
On the day he made us all feel so comfortable and had allowed plenty of time, so we didn't feel at all rushed. As we could only have 10 people to the crematorium Toby arranged for the Hearse to arrive where my Dad lived and to park there for around 10 minutes, for family and friends to pay their respects which was so lovely. Toby took the whole service and read the Eulogy and our Family Tributes with compassion even managing some Italian words! I first contacted Toby after a personal recommendation via my daughter, when we were told that my wife was terminally ill. On speaking with Toby I pointed out that my wife had requested a number of wishes for her funeral, one of which was a pale blue willow casket. When I asked if this was possible, Toby replied, if that is what she would like, anything is possible, from that point I felt that we were in good hands. Toby explained that he would like to meet with us to speak with my wife so he could understand her wishes and to discuss further details. He also explained to me that he would like my wife to feel confident that he would be handling the arrangements after she had passed away. When my husband died I wanted his funeral to take place at home and for him to ‘lie in state’ at home for his last days. The first funeral director I spoke to, well known locally, said that this wasn't allowed even though this happens in Scotland and Ireland.
