Planning ahead for your funeral
If you're thinking ahead and want your loved ones to know what you'd like when the time comes, to make things clear and easier for them - we can help you put these arrangements in place.
Importantly, planning ahead for your funeral does not necessary mean you need to purchase a ‘funeral plan’. That's why we have two options for you to consider:
Option 1: plan in advance - but don't pay in advance
We’ll discuss with you what you want and put together an accurate estimate of the cost, along with confirmation of all the agreed details. It’s then your choice to either:
Simply keep the estimate and agreed details with your Will, so when the time comes your family/executors know what you want,
Put some money aside in your bank or building society account and make a note of this, to keep with your estimate and agreed details and Will, to inform your family/executors of this arrangement.
Cost for option 1: there is an administration fee of £110 payable to us.
Option 2: plan in advance - and pay in advance
If you’d prefer to pay for your funeral in advance, we’ll discuss with you what you want and put together an accurate estimate of the cost, along with confirmation of all the agreed details. The next steps are then:
To complete a funeral plan trust form (which includes all the agreed details) for Open Prepaid Funerals and then pay directly into the Trust Fund. We can help you complete this form.
You'll receive confirmation in writing from the Trust that your payment has been received and you should keep this document with your will. The Trust invests your money with the aim of at least keeping pace with inflation. You can ask the Trust for a statement at any time.
When the time comes, your family/executors contact the Trust and/or us, and the invested money is then used to pay for the funeral you've planned.
